I think that a reference to that seminal Irish iconoclast (;-) JP Donleavy and his “The Ginger Man” is in order. I understand that Hunter S. Thompson considered himself to be a fan.
Published in 1955 the novel is about the exploits of an American law student in Ireland. I haven’t read it but plan to do so soon. To make the list it’s going to have to reprent the sixties sensibility in some way. I’ll let you know what I think when I’m done. I also hear it’s going to come out as a movie with Johnny Depp. Like Tropic, it was banned in the US and first published in France, so it’s got that going for it, which is pretty good.
This blog is simply smashing. In my humble opinion of course. As this post is rather debatable I don’t think all your blog visitors are going to agree with it.
